By using online guitar lessons you have the ability to do your lessons on your own schedule and at your own pace as opposed to having to wait for your scheduled private instruction that only happens once a week, even if you are ready to move onto the next lesson earlier. The huge savings is also another major plus; you could save hundreds to thousands of dollars by choosing the online route.

Private teachers have spent years developing their own style of play and quite often feel that their way is the only way. Quite often private instructors will force their students to learn that way, even if it is not the style that suits the student. Online lessons afford you to learn the style that suits you best at your own pace.

By far the best reason for learning using an online method is the speed at which you will see results. As the online lessons are available to you whenever and wherever you want you will discover that you will learn far faster than you would otherwise. The possibility of reaching an advanced level within months is very high, even for a complete novice.

As you can see, using online lessons to learn guitar easy is by far the most advantageous route and one you won’t regret. You will learn to play your own style at your own pace faster, easier and spend far less money.

The bass guitarist is the anchor of the band. Learn how to play bass guitar with the best online guitar course .

A bass guitarist/bassist is like the anchor of a band. He/she outlines the harmony of the music being performed, while simultaneously indicating the rhythmic pulse of it. The bass guitarist is like the lifeblood of any band, and the bass guitar is his/her tool of choice, used to mesmerize audiences.

A bass guitar is a bass stringed instrument that is played with the fingers. It can be played by plucking, slapping, tapping, popping, or by picking the strings with a pick. The bass guitar looks somewhat similar to an electric guitar, but with a larger, heavier body, a longer scale length, and a longer neck. The bass guitar usually has four strings, tuned one octave lower in pitch than the four lower strings of a guitar.

Bass guitars are large in size, and considerably heavier in weight than electric guitars. As such, the bodies of bass guitars need to be made of lightweight materials so that the weight is manageable. If a bass guitar was made of metal, chances are that a lot of guitarists would find it difficult or even impossible to play it. The preferred materials are wood and graphite. Different kinds of wood may be used, including maple, alder, mahogany, rosewood, etc. The strings are usually made of steel.

Frets are raised metal strips inserted into the fingerboard that extends along the full width of the neck of the guitar. On a fretted bass guitar, these strips divide the fingerboard into segments that emit similar tones, called semitone segments. Fretless basses also exist. However, these have a distinct, unique sound, as the strings must be pressed down directly on the wood of the fingerboard. Fretless basses are somewhat lighter in weight, but many musicians prefer fretted basses, because they say it gives them greater control over the music quality.

Bass guitars are made to deliver loud pitches of sound. Hence, these can never be of acoustic type. Only an amplifier, and a good set of speakers plugged into the guitar can give the majestic bass guitar its true, deep sound. A bass guitar is heavy and cumbersome to carry around, because of all the supporting gadgets that come with it, not to mention the long cables that accompany all of the gadgets.

Bass guitars are expensive to purchase, and also tough to learn. But these are indispensable in any pop or rock band. A bass guitar can indeed be the most prized possession of a devoted bassist.

Here is our recommendation that we consider the best online guitar course.

Sometimes a guy will take up the guitar, learn some rock and some blues.

Want to learn to play guitar like ZZ Top? It will be so much easier with the right online guitar lessons .

Billy F. Gibbons is the kind of guy that is irresistible to watch and hypnotic to hear when he’s on stage with his 1959 Gibson Les Paul electric guitar known to the blues and rock world as ‘Miss Pearly Gates.’ Gibbons, recognized also as ‘Reverend Willie G.’ is the lead vocalist and guitarist for the band ZZ Top. While he has achieved his infamy through his music, he is also an ordained minister with license to perform weddings in 49 states. Anyone that would like to learn to play guitar like the Reverend ought to know that his distinctive sound is the result of using a quarter or a peso as a guitar pick and his masterful use of harmonics.

Gibbons was born and raised in Houston, Texas and is touted to be one of the finest blues-rock guitarists to emerge from the state, alongside the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan. He had musical influences in his early years; his father, Fred Gibbons played the piano and gave him appreciation for classical and country sounds. The family’s Afro-American housekeeper introduced him to the blues.

In 1963 at the age of 13, Gibbons received a Gibson Melody Maker electric guitar with a Fender Champ amp and commenced to emulate the new sounds of rock n’ roll bursting from the TV and radio through Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Jimmy Reid. Gibbons was favored while in his band, Moving Sidewalks by one of history’s all-time favorite guitarists, Jimi Hendrix. When the band folded in 1969 he pushed his way permanently onto the music scene when he hooked up with fellow Texans, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard of American Blues to form ZZ Top.

The band was named after the blues master B.B. King and was initially Z.Z. King. The band members shortly changed it to ZZ Top so it didn’t sound too much like their blues hero. Despite the fact that ZZ Top has sold in the range of 60 million records, one of the most memorable moments Gibbons recalls was an early performance when he was relatively unknown.

‘Perhaps one of the first performances where the curtain opened and we were greeted by the one paying customer of the evening. We looked at each other, and then launched into the show. Played the first set, took a break, went out and bought the guy a Coke and went back and completed the night. We’re still friends with the guy!"

Many aspiring blues guitarists have attempted to mimic Gibbon’s eccentric style over the years but it can be frustrating to make it sound as good as the master. Fortunately for us, there is a guitar tuition program available that features Billy Gibbons breaking down his techniques into easy to follow steps. Online guitar lessons give you the chance to begin practicing his famous blues riffs at a slow pace until you can really get going. Gibbons followed some of the greatest musicians in the country while developing his unique style and now technology has made it a simple approach to learning from the genius that changed the course of music history.

We’ve found the best online guitar lessons that have helped thousands learn guitar. Maybe even to learn to sound like ZZ Top!

What is your favorite music? Rock? Folk music? Jazz? The Classics? Rap? Music is universal; loved by virtually everyone, although many are unaware of the ways in which these diverse styles are similar. Are you aware, for instance, that almost all of the musical types mentioned above can be played with an electro acoustic guitar?

The versatility of the guitar is evident in instruments such as the electro acoustic guitar. This type of guitar allows you to play many different types of songs, anything from the most quiet and soothing lullaby to a frenetic and invigorating rock anthem. While you can use this instrument as an acoustic guitar for a more low-key effect, you can also take advantage of its electric capabilities to really grab someone’s attention.

The main difference between acoustic guitars and electric guitars is that the former can be played without an amplifier or cables. Thus, the acoustic has been traditionally used in genres that call for a quieter, more soothing sound. It is sometimes played with a guitar pick, or sometimes strummed with the fingertips. Either way, its tones are mellow and calming.

The electric requires an amplifier and cable to connect it to the guitar. It is almost always played with a pick. The electric can arguably be used to create a greater range of sound styles than the acoustic, because it has one important advantage: it can be used with an effects pedal.

The pedal is placed between the instrument and the amp. When pumped during a performance, it alters the tones from the instrument. One of these alterations involves overlaying the signal with a copy of itself a fraction of a second later. This pedal effect, sometimes referred to as "distortion" can be found on many popular recordings these days.

The electro acoustic guitar combines aspects of both acoustic and electric guitars into one versatile package. This guitar may look like a traditional acoustic, but it also has a pick-up which allows the guitar to be plugged into an amplifier. An electro acoustic guitar offers the different effects and volume options of an electric guitar, while retaining the more mellow tone of an acoustic. This type of guitar is a particularly good option for a guitarist who is looking to bridge genres.

Learn Rhythm Guitar Today With the Best Online Lessons for Guitar

Rhythm guitar is as specialized as playing guitar solos. If you want to learn rhythm guitar you will need to become expert in a few key areas of guitar playing. Your basic job as a rhythm guitar player is to keep the song moving even if the bass player, lead guitarist and drummer have simultaneous heart attacks.

You will need to be able to play to a beat coming from outside yourself. Most people think that they can play okay without a metronome, but this is almost never true. You won’t have a drummer or bass player to jam with every moment of the day so your metronome will be there to keep you in time. You can buy a metronome but the free ones you can download from the internet will be quite enough to help you to learn rhythm guitar.

The next most available way to keep in time is to play along with some music. You can buy or download free backing tracks or play along with a group with simple rhythmic songs like AC/DC. AC/DC’s Malcolm Young is also a great guitarist to listen to and get pointers from. Another great guitar player with a strong rhythm sense is Johnny Ramone of The Ramones.

A rhythm guitar player needs to know his chords. You start with your basic open chords, move onto bar chords up and down the neck and then get into power chords. Power chords are the least demanding on your fingers and bar chords are the most demanding. Pay equal attention to both.

Power chords only make use of two or three strings which makes them a great friend to the new guitarist who wants to quickly start moving chords up and down the fretboard. Another great thing about power chords is that they can be used in both the minor or major keys. The only thing is you should not be looking for a mellow mood. Power chords are designed to send your audience home with a bad attitude.

If you don’t have a chord book or chord charts, get some from the internet. If you have a reliable internet connection, you don’t have to download them, just make chord folder in your bookmarks.

The basic tool of the rhythm guitarist is your collection of strumming patterns. Start by playing alternating up and down strokes. If you are playing in 4/4 time as most modern songs are, you can use down strokes for each beat and the up strokes can play the "and" in between, like:

One (and) Two (and) Three (and) Four.

You could use just one or two chords but it will be more beneficial for your rhythm playing technique if you use a basic twelve bar blues or the chords to a favorite song. The internet will be your friend once again if you want to find more strumming patterns for rhythm guitar.

Once you have some basic chords and you have practiced some up and down strokes, you will be in a position to start copying rhythm patterns from your favorite artists. No need to get too fancy, just try some blues and rock. Listen to the rhythm strumming, see where the down strokes occur.

If you love that chuggy metal sound you are going to have to learn some palm muting. First switch to the bridge pickup on your guitar. The strings are muted by the edge of your hand, just below the pinky. Rest the side of your hand on the strings and try plucking the open sixth string. When you have the sound right, switch to your neck pickup and see what sounds you come up with.

Want to learn how to play the bass guitar ? What’s the best online guitar course? Find out here…

This post will introduce you to the bass guitar, touch on its history, its evolution and mention some of the amazing bass players that have graced the instrument. Read on to learn more about the bass guitar.

Welcome to the world of the bass guitar; if you’re reading this then you’ve taken an interest in the electric bass and have decided to pursue it further. Maybe this post will reaffirms your decision to play bass guitar, or perhaps it will be the final argument for you to start playing the bass yourself.

The bass guitar is a pretty cool instrument. It may not be as flashy as a drum kit, or command as much attention as a pimped out electric guitar, but it has a subdued, laid-back vibe all its own. A standard bass guitar has four strings and is tuned E-A-D-G; an octave below the lowest strings on a guitar to provide a sonic foundation for the melody to build upon.

While you may give up the fame and glory of the spotlight when you choose to become a bass player, you gain full control of the key of the music, and full dominion over the bass frequencies.

Bass Guitar Frequencies Move People

This is almost a mystical power that most people won’t even realize that you have. Many won’t even realize that it is the bass player and the way he chooses to play certain notes, leave others out, and the space and rhythms in between these that are hypnotizing them into dancing. It is a great responsibility that you take on - called the groove - without it; any music you play will be lame.

So besides this, why take on the bass guitar? What is it about the bass guitar that is cool, or should be attractive to someone just starting out that just wants to play SOMETHING? Well, getting up and running with a bass guitar is much easier than most other instruments. You don’t have to have four-way independence as with drums, you don’t have to memorize all the chord fingering patterns like you would with a guitar, and you don’t have to spend years to get a sound that doesn’t sound like a cat being tortured as you would with a violin. You can pick up a bass guitar and start playing bass lines almost immediately - the good news is that the easier it is to play an instrument along to music you like when you’re starting out, the more likely you’ll stay with the instrument for good.

Another great reason why the bass guitar is cool is that EVERYONE needs a bass player. You make the other band members sound good, and there are many styles of music out there that use the bass guitar. That means that if you’re a good bass player, you’re willing to work hard, learn and you have a great attitude -you’re going to have many more job opportunities than many other musicians would have.

Being a bassist is as much a state of mind as it is a position in the band. You need to put the song and the other musicians before yourself. You are the glue between the rhythm and the melody - you straddle the line between the drummer and the guitarist, giving the music that third dimension that makes music so exciting. If you’re willing to put your ego on the back burner, you can become a truly great bassist that is in demand.

Is playing the bass guitar easier? Yes it is. But to master any instrument is virtually impossible. Playing bass guitar is initially much easier than guitar; you can outline chords one finger at a time as opposed to learning the fingerings for each chord. You also have fewer strings to change than the guitarist, but keep in mind that bass guitar strings are thicker - so in some ways, playing the bass guitar is more difficult because you need to play just as fast as the guitarists but with thicker strings. This means that you’re moving more mass in the same amount of time or energy.

What you may not know about the bass guitar is:

There is something to be said for a simple bass line that does what it’s supposed to do, get some asses out of the chairs at the bar.

Bass guitars can be beautiful and expensive, they can break your heart and if you get used to playing them - playing bass guitar can indeed be habit forming!

The electric bass guitar was responsible for making rock n’ roll music come to life in the fifties - the bass could now be heard (as well as felt!) and helped to drive the new-fangled rock n roll bands mercilessly into the spotlight.

The electric bass guitar started out with 4 strings and remained that way for several decades, before evolving to 5, 6, 8 and even 12 stringed versions beginning in the mid-70s. These multi-stringed basses owe a large debt of thanks to Anthony Jackson who helped open the door to more than 4 string basses by commissioning the first six string bass guitar to be built in the 1970s!
Some famous bass guitarists include Paul McCartney, Sting, Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson, Flea, Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, Billy Sheehan, Stanley Clarke and John Entwistle.

You can get started with a bass guitar kit that includes a bass guitar, a bass amp, a guitar strap, an bass guitar instrument cable and a tuner for around $250 or you can even rent a bass guitar from many major music instrument retailers. Even if you don’t know of any teachers in your town, you can surf Youtube and find plenty of lessons for free that can get you started. There’s no good reason to sit on the fence anymore, playing bass guitar can be an affordable hobby that can actually make you some extra money if you choose to play out in bands.

Choosing to play the bass guitar has given me plenty of opportunity to learn and grow as a human being. It’s allowed me to experience the thrill of performing in front of large audiences while sharing the stage with some amazing bands and meet terrific people. Playing bass guitar is a great way to be creative, relieve stress and have fun!

So what are you waiting for? Get out there, find a bass guitar and start playing today!

If you are an aspiring acoustic guitar player and looking for some information on how to get started, this article will give you a great head start.

If you want to learn through the best online guitar lessons , this is the place to learn about them.

The very first step toward learning to play acoustic guitar is to develop confidence and to destroy that "I can’t do it" mentality. Your biggest obstacle in your acoustic guitar playing is not going to be money, time, or the absence of a good teacher. The biggest obstacle is going to be you. You are your own worst enemy. Once you learn how to tame the negativity inside, you will be that much closer to becoming a good acoustic guitar player.

Frustration is normal during the learning process. Learning anything new is not meant to be easy. Resistance is what helps us grow. So the next time you are working on a scale, or chord progression, and you find yourself fumbling or messing up, don’t throw down the guitar with frustration, instead welcome the challenge and have patience in it.

YOUR FIRST GUITAR

Buying a first guitar is an important step for the beginner guitarist. You should have a good understanding of the acoustic guitar as a whole as well as a good idea of what your goals are as an acoustic guitar player. By educating yourself in these areas, you will be able to make an intelligent purchase that can provide you with years of enjoyable playing.

There are two kinds of acoustic guitars that you can purchase and they are your classic or nylon string guitar and your steel string guitar. One is not necessarily better than the other as it is really a matter of personal taste, but each guitar does have its own unique feel and sound. The classic or nylon guitars produce a round or dull tone, where as the steel string guitars are much different, producing a bright tinny or metallic sound. You will certainly develop your own preference the longer you play, or like many guitarists, you will enjoy using both. Only time will tell.

Another thing you will have to consider is the body style of your acoustic guitar. Acoustic guitars come in a variety of different body sizes from small to jumbo. Each size has its own distinct sound. Smaller body guitars have more treble and midrange sounds and are much easier to hold. Lead guitarists tend to favor smaller body guitars because they tend to have a more balanced sound to them and are easier to make out when playing with other musicians in a band. Your larger body guitars have more bass and are more difficult to hold. The only way to really know what body style is right for you is to try one out for yourself. Your best bet is to find a guitar that you are comfortable holding and playing. Guitar playing is challenging enough in the beginning and you do not need any added difficulties.

Guitar quality will differ depending on the model and brand. Sometimes two instruments of the same make and model can differ as well. It is therefore important to try out as many guitars as possible within your price range. It is also recommended that you bring along an experienced musician when you go guitar shopping. An experienced guitar player will be able to better judge the quality of a guitar.

Buy the best guitar that you can afford. Many of the guitars that sell for under $100 are poorly made for the most part. If you cannot afford to spend more, then save up and wait until you can. A well made guitar will be easier to play, more appealing to the eye and more responsive. If you enjoy playing your instrument more, you will then be more inspired to play. You can find a fine beginner acoustic guitar for under $500. Some brands to look into are Seagull, Martin, Yamaha, Fender and Ibanez to name a few. You may also want to look into the used acoustic guitar market. You may be able to find some real gems out there at great prices, but you have to be very careful with used guitars. Make sure you take an experienced guitar player with you if you decide to buy a used guitar.

LEARNING & PRACTICE

There is probably no substitution for a good guitar teacher, but it can be rather expensive over time, so many guitar players are left with no other choice then to learn on their own. For those of you who may not be able to afford a professional instructor right now, below are some guidelines for helping you get the most out of your practice time.

Practice as many days out of the week as you can for at least twenty to thirty minutes, more if possible. The more often you play the faster you will learn. Be careful not to overdo it though and take breaks of course. Your brain can only absorb so much information before it needs a break and your hands and the rest of your body need time to recuperate as well. When you practice do not rush through any of your exercises. Twenty minutes of quality focused practice is much more effective than an hour of sloppy practice

Study Your Instrument

Take some time to learn more about the parts of your acoustic guitar. Learn about how it is constructed and how all the parts work together to produce those beautiful sounds that you hear.

Learn How to Tune Your Guitar

You can find free step by step guides online for tuning your acoustic guitar. Make certain that you spend time learning how to do this. Purchase a guitar tuner at any local music store and practice tuning your guitar with the guitar tuner. When you begin to develop a better ear, try tuning it without the guitar tuner. Then use the guitar tuner to check and see how accurate your ear was. This will help you develop a good ear.

Learn the Right Posture

If you are accustomed to just grabbing your guitar and sitting down to play in any old position, then you are at risk of injuring yourself and developing bad playing habits. Make sure you understand the correct way to sit and hold your instrument for optimal performance.

Learn Your Chords & Scales

Learn as many different chords and variations of the same chord that you can and practice your scales. This will give you a well rounded familiarity with the frets on the guitar and it will build up strength in your fingers and hands.

Learn more about our favorite online lessons for guitar , which includes lots of easy ways to learn guitar chords.

Every town throughout the world has one or two fully dedicated aspiring guitarists and bassists. These disciplined folks spend countless hours improving their craft. Their local musician community is made up of a small group of less-dedicated folks and people with divergent tastes in music. To the truly passionate musician, sometimes this can be frustrating. The dedicated guitarists and bassists of these communities have often surpassed the ability of local teachers, and are thus on their own following their musical heroes. Although guitar tab books and guitar lesson DVDs help, trial and error becomes the primary method.

Learning with on line guitar lessons can be just as good as or better than learning off line. Instead of having just one person to learn from, you get a much wider variety of influences contributing to who you are as a musician. Enjoy the Internet boom and use it to your advantage!

Before you can begin learning the guitar, you have to decide what type of guitar you want to play. The most common are electric and acoustic, but there are other types like the banjo that you can also play. In most cases, if you learn one, the others are easy to master; it’s just a matter of learning the guitar for its shape and knowing the difference in string pressure. When you know what you want to play, you can then begin learning the guitar.

You may feel hopeless, but remember, even the most prolific and impressive players had to start somewhere. Learning the guitar should start with an appreciation for the instrument. Learn what each part of the instrument does, what each part is called, and how they all work together to make notes and chords.

There are guitar lesson websites that have the lessons set out in the correct sequence for a beginner guitar player’s progress. The formulators of these guitar courses are experienced guitar players who have extensive experience teaching the guitar and playing in bands. These online lessons are great for people who need a basic understanding of the guitar, how to hold it and play chords for easy songs. Free online guitar lessons get these people playing the guitar fast.

Many people find that learning chords and playing rhythm guitar is a great way to start but soon find that they want more from the instrument. This invariably leads people wanting to take up lead guitar and understand the styles involved with the instrument. After learning how to play guitar chords the next step is to move on the picking and playing styles of lead guitar and there is a lot to learn. Depending on which style you want to play or what guitarist you wish to sound like, there are many different ways to go about playing this style of music.

Taking steps in how to play lead guitar is a great place to start for any budding musician. It may seem frustrating at first but the skills involved can be picked up over time and hopefully it will not take too long before your true skills develop. As long as you don’t get too frustrated at first, you can become a great lead guitarist over time.

What a great article on whether to use tablature to play the guitar. Basically, this author says–it doesn’t matter. Whatever way will help you learn the song and play the guitar.

Our Recommended Online Guitar Lessons - and they use tablature!

Beginner guitarists often get caught up in the question of whether to learn to read sheet music or simply learn from tablature. This article states the case for both forms of musical notation and brings to light the fact that the guitarist must find whether tab or sheet music fits the path he sees for himself as a musician.

As a beginner acoustic guitarist you’re probably wondering whether learning your songs from guitar tablature is as good as getting them from "real" sheet music. Learning to play acoustic guitar is a great adventure which is sometimes spoilt a bit by the prospect of having to learn to read music. But for most acoustic guitar players, learning all the symbols and theory connected with musical notation is not really necessary.

Tablature for acoustic guitar has certain points giving it an edge over standard music notation. Actually historians tell us that tablature was used to record musical compositions long before conventional notation. They don’t seem to have much idea how musicians attributed note values to compositions they has never heard played. Maybe it wasn’t an issue in the sixteenth century.

So what do you learn from tabs? Tablature shows diagrammatically where finger positions are indicated using numbers representing the guitar’s frets along horizontal lines representing the strings. The note G played on the first (thinnest) string is shown by the number 3 written on the top line of the tablature. Sometimes the person writing the tablature will group the notes together to show that they are all the same value but this is not a hard and fast rule.

Hammer-ons, string bends, pull-offs and other techniques are shown by symbols. Each tablature writer has his own idea of the best way to show how to play the music, and he usually includes a legend showing his symbols on each tab. With the aid of guitar tabs, you can learn new music quickly without going to the additional trouble of learning conventional music notation.

Despite the fact that tempo and time signatures are not included, sometimes it’s easier for the guitarist to pick up music from tablature. The ease with which you can learn to read tablature means that your progress on the guitar is not slowed by the need to cope with such things as the use of alternate tunings.

Another bonus is in the ease in sharing acoustic guitar music on the internet. Guitar tab is easily written on a computer by way of ASCII code, which makes it easier to email or post on the web. Maybe when you get some guitar playing experience under your belt you could try writing some music down for yourself. A great chance to see the difficulties facing composers for the guitar. Unfortunately debate over copyright issues has made posting guitar tab a little bit contentious, but you can still share tab privately by email.

A lot of guitar teachers proclaim the virtues of learning to read sheet music. Some even think you are not a "real" musician unless you can read "real" music. If you have a burning desire to follow a career in music then the versatility given you by the ability to read music will be a definite advantage. But if you look at playing music as a way of each individual expressing themselves in their own unique way, then how you write your music down is not one of the biggest issues in your life!

This is the best guitar online lesson course that we’ve found…
